FORT DODGE – A teen is in custody in Fort Dodge, accused of robbing a Yes Way store twice in recent months and faces two counts of first-degree robbery.
According to Fort Dodge police, on July 15, 2017, at approximately 4:22 A.M., the Webster County Communications Center received a call from the Yesway located at 1601 5th Ave S that they had been robbed. Officers arrived in the area and were unable to come up with anyone in the immediate area. At that time, limited information was available and the case was turned over to the Criminal Investigations Division.
On Tuesday, October 24, 2017 at 03:07 the Webster County Telecommunications Center received a call from the Yesway located at 1601 5th Ave S that they had again been robbed. Officers arrived in the location within one minute of the call coming in and were unable to locate any suspects. As with the prior incident, the suspect information was limited.
Over the last few weeks, the Fort Dodge Police Department received information which led to the identification of a suspect. Search warrants were executed as a result of this information and evidence was obtained relating to the robberies. As a result of the investigation conducted by the Fort Dodge Police Department, a 15-year-old male was taken into custody this afternoon on two counts of Robbery in the First Degree. One count for each incident.
Due to the age of the offender, his name will not be released at this time. Upon being taken into custody, the juvenile was transported to the Iowa State Training Center in Eldora. Fort Dodge police encourage anyone with further information to contact their department.
