NIACC men’s team ranked 12th, women ranked 23rd

MASON CITY – The NIACC men’s cross country team remained at No. 12 in the third USTFCCA NJCAA Division I rankings released Wednesday.

The Trojans are one of three ICCAC teams ranked in the top 25. Iowa Central is No. 1 and Southwestern is tied for 24th. Iowa Western and Hawkeye CC received votes in this week’s poll.

NIACC, which has been ranked in the top 15 for 10 straight polls dating back to 2015, was ranked No. 6 in the initial 2017 poll on Sept. 20 and were No. 12 in the Oct. 4 rankings.

NIACC is coming off a first-place finish at the first Trent Smith Invitational last Friday on the NIACC campus. Freshman Brian Jacques was the individual champion in a personal-best time of 25 minutes, 17 seconds.

NIACC returns to action Oct. 29 at the NJCAA Region XI meet in Fort Dodge. The national meet is set for Nov. 11 in Fort Dodge.

Meanwhile, the NIACC women’s cross country team is ranked No. 23 in the third USTFCCA NJCAA Division I rankings released Wednesday.

The Lady Trojans are one of four ICCAC teams ranked in the top 25. Iowa Central is No. 1, Iowa Western is No. 17 and Indian Hills is ranked No. 22.

NIACC placed second at the first Trent Smith Invitational last Friday in Mason City. Freshman Julia Dunlavey led the Lady Trojans with a sixth-place finish in a personal best time of 20 minutes, 19 seconds on the 5-kilometer course.

NIACC returns to action on Oct. 29 at the NJCAA Region XI meet in Fort Dodge. The national meet is set for Nov. 11 in Fort Dodge.
