Iowa man jailed after attempting to strangle his dad and throw body in a river

WADENA, IOWA – An Iowa man is behind bars Tuesday after police say he tried to strangle and kill his father and then dump the body in a river.

On October 2, 2017 at approximately 1:00 PM, the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office took a 911 call from a person who received a text message from a victim stating “his son was is going to kill him”. The reporting party said that the man and the attacker were east of Wadena, Iowa on an isolated drive by the city sewer plant. While deputies were enroute to the location, several more 911 texts came in from the victim. The victim was able to get away from the attacker – his son – after his son had attempted to strangle him. Once Deputies arrived on scene and located both parties, they quickly placed Lonnie Vernon Davis Jr., age 36 of Clermont, Iowa, under arrest. The investigation showed that that the two had been in a vehicle and an argument started and quickly escalated. Davis Jr. then informed his father he was going to kill him and dump his body in the water. He then drove out to a rural area outside Wadena where Davis Jr. attempted to strangulate his father stating over and over, he was going to be dead. The father recorded the attack on a recording device which aided in the investigation.

Davis Jr. was transported to the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office and charged with Attempt to commit murder, a class “B” felony. If convicted he could face up to 25 years in prison.
