Iowa man sent to prison for crimes against children

BOONE, IOWA – An Iowa man has been sentenced to seven years in prison for crimes against children.

On September 14, 2017, a Boone County District Associates Court Judge sentenced Randy Joe Martin, 60, Boone, Iowa, to seven years in prison for his guilty plea to Lascivious Acts with a Child and Indecent Contact with a Child. Lascivious Acts with a Child is a D-Felony and Indecent Contact with a Child is an Aggravated Misdemeanor. Both charges combined carry a maximum sentence of seven years in prison.

According to public records sometime in the winter of 2016, Randy Martin touched the private parts of a child and touched the private parts over the clothing of another child. The Boone Police Department opened an investigation and based on the investigation charged Randy Joe Martin for the crimes.

On August 9, 2017, Randy Joe Martin pled guilty to Lascivious Acts with a Child and Indecent Contact with a Child. The Court set the sentencing hearing on these counts on September 14, 2017. At sentencing the court heard from family members and reviewed a Pre-Sentence Investigation report. The State argued that both counts should run consecutive for seven years in prison. The Court sentenced Randy Martin to seven years in prison to be served with the Iowa Department of Corrections. In addition to his prison sentence Randy Martin will be required to register with the Sex Offender Registry.

The Boone Police Department investigated this case. The State was represented by the Boone County Attorney’s Office.
