Convicted Mason City burglar caught with dangerous weapon and meth

MASON CITY – A man convicted of burglarizing a house this year – and promptly put on probation – was caught tooling around with a dangerous weapon and methamphetamine.

John Dana Adams, age 46 of Rockford, burglarized a Mason City house back on March 23; he fled the scene along with two other men, from 11 25th Street SW. Police later caught him and his cohorts as they hid nearby. He pled guilty to felony third-degree burglary and in August was sentenced to a suspended 5-year prison sentence, 5 years of probation and a suspended fine. He also was ordered to pay $4,849.99 in court fees and restitution to the victim.

Then, on September 10, at 1:55 AM, the Iowa State Patrol stopped Adams in a vehicle near 19th Street SW and Benjamin Avenue. During the stop, which a Cerro Gordo deputy arrived at, a dangerous weapon was discovered on Adams, along with the highly-illegal drug methamphetamine. He was promptly arrested and taken to the county jail on weapons and drug charges, where he remains held on $1,000 bond as he awaits an arraignment set for September 26.
