CLEAR LAKE – Area law enforcement agencies have scheduled a multi-jurisdictional traffic safety project for the evening of Thursday, September 7, 2017. Officers in Cerro Gordo County will be patrolling the central part of the county around Highway 18 and 122. They will be focusing on distracted driving, impaired drivers, and seat belt usage.
Motorists should always drive safely, without distractions, and designate a sober driver prior to visiting an event with alcohol. In addition, all occupants are reminded to buckle up. Seat belt usage improves chances of survival in the event of a crash.
Officers will out be enforcing all observed traffic violations in an effort to promote safety on Iowa’s roads.
The participating agencies are:
Cerro Gordo Sheriff’s Office
Clear Lake Police Department
Iowa Department of Transportation – Motor Vehicle Enforcement
Iowa State Patrol
Mason City Police Department
Portions of the project will be funded through a grant from the Iowa Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau (GTSB).

I for one am glad when drunk drivers and drug dealers are taken off the road. I don’t want anyone from my family injured or killed by a drunk driver or a vehicle fleeing the police.

Generally I support law enforcement, but, this smells of illegal entrapment. It used to be illegal, then they just changed the name to a safety check. The end result is the same. It give them a opportunity to inspect your car without a warrant.
Remember when you used to have to sell your car “red title” if it did not pass inspection? Once they drop the red title law it pretty much gave the law-enforcement the OK to stop and inspect your car any time. I may be wrong but I think that is how the inspection law not works.

Aren’t you talking about the high payed Iowa state patrol officer troopers how are making up to $25,000 more than the rest of those officers. Their troopers with stripes make over $85,000 a year and their supervisors make over $100,000 a year. They are the highest paid natzi’s in history. Look up their salaries on line and what your paying to keep their pension afloat and than call your local senator and tell them what you just said!
I agree! I have a friend that is a state employee. She said the state patrol are the only ones that didn’t have to pay more for insurance and they got a bigger raised than all other state employees. She said they have more supervisors makin well over $100,000. Those people get paid a lot of money to take an accident report that you can do yourself on line. Hey Matt why don’t you look into why theses state employees are paid so high and other cops are not. Seems like discrimination to me! Two people do the same job and are paid differently.

yes they do patrol for these, but are very often and frequently sent on calls which take them away from it, this is a concentrated effort and is all they will be doing, will not be called away to answer calls unless its a emergency.
Hope they ticket t he Higher up law breakers on there phones along with the younger ones Its scary to drive these days you see it all the time near miss instances. People on there phones are causing Harm to themselves and others and if they do not quit that bad habit chances are an accident will happen people driving drunk is the same as Driving and Dialing!! PERIOD.
