HAMBURG, GERMANY – President Donald J. Trump met today with President Enrique Pena Nieto of Mexico during the G20 Summit in Hamburg, Germany, saying in front of Nieto that Trump ‘absolutely’ wants Mexico to pay for a wall on the US border.
President Trump emphasized the strong bilateral relationship that the United States enjoys with Mexico and noted the importance of renegotiating NAFTA to help workers in both countries. He indicated if the deal cannot be re-negotied, the US will end it. President Trump thanked President Pella Nieto for Mexico’s partnership on the Central America Conference last month. The leaders also discussed regional challenges, including drug trafficking, illegal migration, and the crisis in Venezuela.
Trump said in front of Nieto and cameras that he still wants Mexico to pay for a border wall with the US. Mexico has repeatedly said it will not pay for the border wall.
