MASON CITY – A Mason City man is guilty of attempted murder and domestic abuse and now faces up to 30 years in prison.

A violent domestic incident led to the arrest of Jason Michael Clausen, age 44 of Mason City, back on the morning of Sunday, May 29, 2016. Officers with the Mason City Police Department responded to a domestic assault at 1136 Maple Drive SE. Officers conducted an investigation at the scene and it was determined that the victim had been assaulted by her boyfriend. The victim sustained serious bodily injury and was transported to the hospital by the Mason City Fire Department. Clausen was arrested for Attempted Murder (Class “B” Felony), 1st Degree Kidnapping (Class “A” Felony), 1st Degree Burglary (Class “B” Felony), and for violating a no contact order.

After a number of delays in the case, in an Alford plea Clausen eventually pled guilty to attempted murder and third or subsequent offense domestic abuse assault. He was sentenced to 25 years and 5 years, respectively, in prison for those two crimes; the sentences run consecutively. He remains held in the Cerro Gordo county jail, awaiting transport to prison.
