Mason City man jailed for illegal drugs after traffic complaint

CLEAR LAKE – A Mason City man was taken to jail after a traffic complaint led to a traffic stop and the discovery of illegal drugs.

A traffic complaint was lodged on the evening of June 14 and as a result, a Cerro Gordo county deputy located the offending driver near Highway 122 and Interstate 35 in Clear Lake. After an investigation, the deputy discovered the illegal substance marijuana, drug paraphernalia and an open container of alcohol. This led to the arrest of 42-year-old Billy Matthew Thorne of Mason City. Thorne was taken to jail and later posted surety bond as he awaits a court date.

Back in 2008, Thorne was guilty of purchasing more than 7500MG of pseudoephedrine, a drug used to treat nasal and sinus congestion – or as ingredient for other substances.
