Cyclones’ Wigginton to train with Canada’s U19 Team

AMES – Iowa State freshman guard Lindell Wigginton will participate in training for Canada’s U19 team in Etobicoke, Ontario from June 12-20.

If selected to the team, Wigginton will travel to Troyes, France for training and exhibitions prior to participating in the FIBA U19 Basketball World Cup from July 1-9 in Cairo, Egypt.

“This is a great opportunity for Lindell to train and play against really good competition and under the supervision of a really good group of coaches,” Iowa State head coach Steve Prohm said. “Anytime you have the opportunity to represent your country it is a really special thing. We’ll look forward to following him and to having him back on campus in July.”

Wigginton, who arrived on campus at Iowa State last week, played for Canada’s U18 team at the FIBA Americas in Chile last summer and led the team in scoring at 14.0 points per game.

Canada is paired with Japan, Spain and Mali in Group C at the tournament in Egypt. All teams qualify for the final phase with seeding based on finish in group play.
