Former NIACC Trojan Glendinning selected by Pirates

MASON CITY – For the second straight season, a former NIACC all-American has been selected in the MLB Draft.

Shortstop Robbie Glendinning, who played at NIACC from 2015-16, was selected by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 21st round on Wednesday.

Last season, former NIACC outfielder Malique Zielger was drafted in the 22nd round (665th pick) by the San Francisco Giants.

Glendinning, who played his junior season at the University of Missouri, was the 628th player selected in the MLB Draft.

Glendinning, who is from Scarborough, Australia, hit .274 with 13 doubles, seven home runs and 30 RBIs for Missouri in the 2017 season.

Glendinning is NIACC’s all-time hit leader with 195 and is also the school’s career leader in home runs (33), doubles (42), RBIs (141), runs scored (151) and at-bats (500).

He set the school’s single-season hits record with 107 and single-season doubles record with 27 as a freshman in 2015. He also set the school’ss single-season home run record (25) and RBIs (87) as a sophomore in 2016.

Glendinning helped guide NIACC to the NJCAA Division II World Series in 2015 and 2016. He was a second-team NJCAA Division II all-American selection in 2015.

Ziegler, who was a first-team all-American in his lone season as a Trojan in 2016, is playing for the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes, the Giants’ short-season Class A squad.
