WASHINGTON, D.C. – An Illinois man shot at least four people today just outside Washington, D.C., and it has been learned he previously worked for the Bernie Sanders campaign and was hunting Republicans.
House Majority Whip Steve Scales was shot and injured in the attack. His office released the following statement on his condition following this morning’s shooting:
“This morning, at a practice for the Congressional Baseball Game, Whip Scalise was shot in the hip. He was transported to MedStar Washington Hospital Center, where he is currently undergoing surgery. He is in stable condition. Prior to entering surgery, the Whip was in good spirits and spoke to his wife by phone. He is grateful for the brave actions of U.S. Capitol Police, first responders, and colleagues.
“Congressman Steve Scalise sustained a single rifle shot to the left hip. The bullet travelled across his pelvis, fracturing bones, injuring internal organs, and causing severe bleeding. He was transported in shock to MedStar Washington Hospital Center, a Level I Trauma Center. He underwent immediate surgery, and an additional procedure to stop bleeding. He has received multiple units of blood transfusion. His condition is critical, and he will require additional operations. We will provide periodic updates.”
The shooter was soon identified as 66-year-old James Hodgkinson of Illinois. He was shot by police and later died. It was reported that he asked who the people were at the baseball field – Democrats or Republicans.
Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vermont) issued the following statement after receiving reports on the alleged shooter at a congressional baseball practice Wednesday morning:
“I have just been informed that the alleged shooter at the Republican baseball practice is someone who apparently volunteered on my presidential campaign. I am sickened by this despicable act. Let me be as clear as I can be. Violence of any kind is unacceptable in our society and I condemn this action in the strongest possible terms. Real change can only come about through nonviolent action, and anything else runs against our most deeply held American values. My hopes and prayers are that Representative Scalise, congressional staff and the Capitol Police Officers who were wounded make a quick and full recovery. I also want to thank the Capitol Police for their heroic actions to prevent further harm.”

FYI: I know more than a little bit about health care including mental health care services.
I am 1/6000ths of an owner of my own “Health Insurance Company”. We got together as a group in the mid 80’s and formed it and freed our employer from providing it. I have served on the board and committees that set it up and administer our health care. I raised 4 kids and NEVER paid a dime for Doctors’ Hospitals, Dental Care including braces, Vision Care, and nor prescription drugs. I am retired and my supplemental insurance was free through my pension. Since Obamacare came in I now have to pay 160 a month out of my pension.
Now when I go in for my annual physical it takes less than 5 minutes and you don’t even take your clothes off. Your Obummecare has become crap and more expensive. Government screws up everything it touches!!
