Mason city stabbing victim passes away; Bowers could face murder charge

Police on the scene near the 300 block of West State Street back on May 30 after the attack

MASON CITY – The victim of a recent stabbing incident in Mason city has passed away, leading to the chance for a stiffer charge against the man suspected of the crime.

The Mason City Police Department said today that 23-year-old Wraymond Leon Todd of Mason City died yesterday afternoon while still in the hospital recovering from a stabbing assault assault. On Tuesday, May 30 at 3:34 PM, officers and medics were dispatched to the 300 block of West State Street on a report of a stabbing. Todd had been stabbed in the chest with a knife and was seriously injured. Todd was transported by medics to Mercy Hospital and emergency surgery was performed; he has since passed away. Another man, Cody Michael Bublitz, age 28 of Mason City, was also cut during the assault. He was attended to by medics and declined immediate medical attention.

Braedon Steven Bowers, age 20, was arrested on May 31 in connection with the assault and was charged with Attempted Murder. Bowers is still an inmate at the Cerro Gordo County Jail, held on $50,000 bond. Police say he will likely be charged with first-degree murder this afternoon.

Let all without sin, the self righteous, holier than thou NIT bloggers give me an Amen………. then cast the first stone.

It’s not hard for one to think that they are, or seem to be, holier than a lot of the people that are written about in the articles on NIT. After all, most of them have committed a crime, are in jail,/or are going to prison. While I would venture a guess that most of the NIT readers are, law abiding, hard working, tax paying , legal citizens of this town/country.

idgaf about anything else you all are going on about.. but to the person that made the third comment. I’ll pray for you. to judge people by FACEBOOK. you need serious help. I shouldn’t have to explain anything, but seeings how I’m one of the people involved in this tragic incident. you could surely look me up, think I’m some horrible 23 year old mom, living off the state to support my two kids, doing/selling drugs. can’t forget the tattoo statement. that’s probably how you’d lable me because of my social media page. but yes I’ve got multiple tattoos, I work my damn ass off EVERYDAY for my children, pay for my own car, house and EVERYTHING and anything my children need.
let’s also make a few things Clear, the man that died. my BESTFRIEND might “look” like some thug you were ranting about but he isnt.. and didn’t try to be. he was an amazing man, that helped anybody and everybody. which is why we were at this residence that day. there was no fight,or arguments between the two men previous to the stabbing. I’ll also add that the victim has NEVER touched or done dope in his life and he DID have a job. a good one at that.
it’s very sad that you judge by how people look. why because they dress, talk, walk and act different then you. just from your comment I can already tell that every victim that was involved in this, you know the people your degrading and belittling are already better individuals then YOU! you must be a sad sad, lonely person. from how your talking, I’m going to guess your significantly older then me and I’m so glad I wasn’t raised with your generation. to judge and talk on people you don’t know like that, especially after the death of young man like this. pathetic, and sickens me.

Can I judge you by your spelling, punctuation and sentence structure? I have never met you, but all ready know your type, by your dimwitted typing.

I’m the “third” comment down. Let ME make something clear. Why don’t you go check your homie’s FB pictures of him holding a burning blunt before you insult me by saying he has never done or touched dope. I’m not judging people by the way they look. I judge people by the way the ACT in society. And the pictures of your friends doing dope and flipping off store cameras isn’t very appealing. I wasn’t the one home in the middle of the day on a weekday. Your friends were. They were the ones who were at a place that they shouldn’t have been. I’m not the one who has to “work my ass off” to pay my bills. I didn’t have kids out of wedlock or decide not to go to college. I don’t get tattoos if I can barely pay my bills or provide for my kids. I’m guessing you’re not living in Stone Pillar or Asbury, which is fine, neither do I, but don’t sit here and brag about the fact that you have a job and pay your bills. Most of us do. Also, there is a difference between dressing a certain way and trying to be a gangster. A Mason City gangster, at that. I have an idea. Tell your home boys to pull up their pants, put on a belt, for God’s sake take a shower and brush their teeth, use a condom on women like you so you all don’t continue to breed and multiply and start acting like responsible adults. Don’t you ever notice that there aren’t too many 50 year old Gangsters in Mason City? That’s because you and your friends just become old degenerates. You’re correct by the way. I am older than you and in fact I have kids your age and trust me, they contribute to society rather than suck from it. I will also guess that your parents are in a similar situation as you and you’re just a product of their poor decisions just like your kids will be. 23 with 2 kids, working full time and not married. Is that where you planned to be? So don’t prayer for me Darlin’, you need God more than I do.

Amen brother, Amen! Funny how its never the tax paying homeowners in these situations.

Wow, there’s a lot of truth in your comment. Young people these days have no respect for anyone, anything, or themselves.

“What is happening to our young people? They disrespect their elders, they disobey their parents. They ignore the laws. They riot in the streets inflamed with wild notions. Their morals are decaying. What is to become of them?”
–Plato (428–347 BCE)

“The world is passing through troublous times. The young people of
today think of nothing but themselves. They have no reverence for
parents or old age. They are impatient of all restraint. They talk as
if they knew everything, and what passes for wisdom with us is
foolishness with them. As for the girls, they are forward, immodest
and unladylike in speech, behavior and dress.”
– Peter of Amiens (1050-1115 CE) a priest of Amiens and a key figure during the First Crusade.

absolutely amen! Check back to 12/07/12. These idiots were caught breaking windows out of vehicles with paintballs and stealing minibikes (my minibike) out of storage units. Karma’s an asskicker

kids to day have lost something, its called “respect” they don’t have any for anything or anyone. parents need to teach it

All this self righteous talk gets me so excited and girly giggly. I just love the blisters from your hell fire and brimstone. Chase that Satan away!

The problem is this town is full of twenty something punks who have nothing to do all day and refuse to work. They have local skanks for girlfriends, knock them up and live off the state. Look up some of these losers on Facebook who are involved in this incident. They are all want to be thugs and gangsters. Skinny little punks who don’t work yet somehow have money for dope and tattoos. Drive by where this happened and you’ll see them all sitting on the porch wasting good air. Contribute to society and if you decide not to, then don’t expect society to contribute to you.

You forgot to mention the (free) cell phones…

Is that a dog whistle I hear Allen? Low-income households have been eligible for discounted telephone service for more than a decade. But the program is funded by telecom companies, not by taxes, and the government had nothing to do with it.

In terms of a time line, it actually started when Bush 43 was in the White House

telecom companies are giving away free cell phones and minutes, where have I been, besides, WHERE DID I SAY, the government was footing the bill. Let’s see, I posted, “You forgot to mention the (free) cell phones”… Yup, I can get government out of that.

The phone company’s are not giving away anything. You and I are paying for it. Look at your bill. There is a fee being charged that the people who pay their own way is paying for the drug pushers so they can have a cell phone to do their drug deals with.

If you have a drug pusher surcharge on your phone bill LVS, its probably time to change carriers. Or keep the same company and continue to contribute to the problem.

At LVS June 7, 8:11am. That anonymous person told me that telecom was giving away free cell phones and minutes. I think that he was trying to cover something up, or maybe he feels guilty and ashamed and wants to change the subject. Yes, I know who pays the bill for free stuff, the legal, hard working, tax paying citizens.

I just watching LVS delete comments that make him squirm.

Wow u all r selfrightous and think u know what ur talking about but u don’t! Kids nowadays do need more respect but its not always cuz their parents didn’t teach them sometimes kids just go down the wrong path no matter how hard u try to keep them on the right one.. U people all need to get a life and maybe start contributing to boys and girls club or b a mentor for these young kids instead of just bitching about them! Btw these kids in this so called incident were good kids that somehow went down the wrong path some of them and they have families and friends who love them and wanted what was best for them and still think there is hope so go get a life please!!

Lots of “good people” stab other humans, one to death. Yes, prison is full of “good people”. It’s just those pesky laws that give them a bad rap.

Kids are being raised worthless punks these days. When I was a kid, and we a had a problem with a peer, we just beat each other up, and then moved on from that problem. If parents were still willing to discipline their children and teach them the Good Book, they would grow up with more respect for human life and other people. A true, sad shame.

Your exactly right, it all started back in the 60’s when our government removed religion from schools, and, then took discipline away from the parents.

No one has the right to teach our kids their religion. You want to blame someone for crappy kids, blame the society that gives them 400 chances.

Nobody wants to teach your heathen kids their religion. That is the parents job. And whether or not you believe in or practice any type of religion, the fact remains, religion teaches respect, both to self and others. religion teaches to be humble and kind to others. All that seems to be forgotten today, because people are so worried about someone overstepping their boundaries , that they forgot themselves to teach kids right from wrong and the value of hard work and earning something.

Couldn’t have said it better myself. There are certain poster on this site that live in a bubble, and don’t have a clue about life and what’s going on around them.

“Heathen kids”….. “worthless punks”, oh my Dickie those comments border on blasphemy.

@ the church lady, June 6, 4:15 pm. Better check the meaning of blasphemy, it doesn’t pertain to his comment. And, you should know better. What church is it that you belong too.

Must be “The Church of Spite and Keyboard Saints”

Murders in Mason City have been happening since the town was founded. People just like to use the “when I was a kid things weren’t like this” to make themselves feel better/superior. https://iowacoldcases.org/homicides-1960s/ These are just cold cases, not solved murders from Iowa in the 60s. A few MC cases in there.

Your comment just doesn’t compute.

Better technology helps under qualified law enforcement solve cases, unlike the days of old. Most of them lately have been pretty cut and dry. People didn’t have cell phones and video recorders in their pockets, making crimes 50-70 years ago much harder to solve. Murders are definitely more common nowadays, locally and nationwide. And River City’s population has steeply declined, making the crime percentage even greater. Thank you for you input though.

According to Iowa crime stats, there were 617 murders from 1970-1979 – 61.7 each year. From 2010 through 2015 there were 304 murders – Just more than 50 each year. That doesn’t even take a larger population into account. My point is violent crime isn’t any worse than it was in the 60s, 70s, 80s.

What a sad waste of two lives. I certainly don’t know any details but it seems to me that our youth have grown up with the “everybody gets a trophy” attitude and when confronted with real life conflicts, there aren’t any coping skills. My thoughts are with both families. They both lose.

Everyone gets a trophy and a man dies? Really? Connect those dots for us please Carly.

If you can’t connect those dots for yourself, you are part of the problem.

I wasn’t asking you, idiot.

You are the one who can not collect the dots. And, you call someone else a IDIOT. You wrote the book.

I’ll try to explain it to you. Obviously the two had a conflict and one chose to solve it using a sharp object. We have a generation or two of young kids who haven’t learned how to lose. Everybody gets a trophy so there aren’t any hurt feelings. When faced with conflict, they haven’t learned to cope with that feeling so they react with anger. Do you get it or do I have to explain it further?

Your claim is absolutely outrageous.

I appreciate your dot connecting Carly, seriously. And I do “get it”. You believe that “everyone gets a trophy” somehow contributes to (as related to this article) murder. That’s just not true. Opinion yes, great explanation, yes but factual, no.

I don’t think any amount of explaining will get you to understand. The point I was trying to make is that our kids have not developed their critical thinking skills. Because “everyone gets a trophy” no one loses. But life is full of losing, and without good coping skills, when these kids are faced with conflict they respond with violence to try to make it right. We haven’t taught them how to handle life. Just watch the news and it’s pretty evident.

@ Carly. Many of those “Trophy participation” kids are in Special Education, Make a Wish and My Happy Place. Your blanket condemnation of Trophy Awards is wrong.

In the second paragraph, you may want to remove the sentence about Todd still being hospitalized…..

Why, the paragraph sounds correct to me. Besides, it was from a police report, not something NIT made up. It seems that if the news on NIT isn’t written verbatim, posters have fits and go into a frenzy about the bad reporting. It is what it is, take it or leave it.

So says a NIT apologist.

Nope, so says a realist. 🙂

20 years old with the possibly of life in prison. But never fear, it’s possible to get out before that drug dealer selling marijuana. Now, that sounds right to me. What the hell.

Have fun in the pokey!!
