MASON CITY – A convicted drunk driver was caught speeding through town with a woman who had illegal drugs.
A Cerro Gordo county deputy stopped a speeding vehicle early Thursday morning at about 1:20 PM near Lark Avenue and 255th Street. As a result of the traffic stop and investigation, the deputy arrested the driver, 27-year-old Marcos Antonio Alberto of Mason City on charges of second-offense operating while intoxicated, open container of alcohol, driving under suspension, and speeding. Also arrested was the passenger, 22-year-old Brooke Markay Thompson of Plymouth. She was charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and unlawful possession of prescription medication.
Both were taken to jail and soon released benign court dates. Alberto was guilty of drunk driving in 2013 after an arrest by Mason City police.
