HAMPTON, IOWA – A Hampton man says he’s not guilty of sexually abusing a child charges and will stand trial this month.
After an investigation, on April 20, 2017, 71-year-old Michael Lynn Rodemeyer Sr. of Hampton was arrested and charged with Two counts of Second Degree Sexual abuse, Class B Felonies by the Hampton Police Department and One count of Second Degree Sexual Abuse a Class B Felony and One Count of Third Degree Sexual Abuse a Class C Felony by the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office. Mr. Rodemeyer was seen by the magistrate, had his initial appearance and was placed on a $200,000 dollar bond.
The charges stemmed from incidents that occurred over a two year period in Hampton and rural Franklin County against a child.
At arraignment this week, Rodemeyer entered a not-guilty plea. A jury trial was scheduled for May 31 and a pre-trial conference (possible plea deal) would be held that same day. He remains held in jail on $50,000 cash-only bond.
The Hampton police department and the Frankling county sheriff’s department were assisted in the investigation by the Department of Human Services and the Child Protection Center.
