Two hurt in car accident Wednesday evening north of Mason City

MASON CITY – Two people were hurt in an auto accident Wednesday evening north of Mason City.

A Cerro Gordo county sheriff’s deputy was dispatched to 310th Street and Orchid Avenue at 8:56 PM for a two-car personal injury accident. A 2002 Pontiac Bonneville driven by 18-year-old Mckenzie Raye Beenken of Northwood, Iowa and the vehicle’s passenger 20-year-old Lane Aaron Elsbury of Mason City attempted to make a left turn onto Orchid Avenue from 310th Street when it pulled directly into the path of a 2008 Chevrolet Malibu driven by 18-year-old Dylin Matthew Pate of Manly, Iowa traveling northbound on Orchid Avenue.

As a result of the collision, damage sustained to both vehicles was disabling. Lane Aaron Elsbury was taken to Mercy Medical Center North Iowa by Mason City Fire Medics for minor injuries. Mckenzie Raye Beenken was also taken to the hospital by a family member to get checked for injuries.

Dylin Matthew Pate was uninjured.

Mckenzie Raye Beenken was cited for failure to obey a to and yield right of way as a result of the accident.

Iowa State Patrol and Mason City Fire Department assisted the Cerro Gordo sheriff’s office.
