MASON CITY – A Clear Lake man took a plea deal after he allegedly sexually assaulted a teen, and a judge handed him a short jail sentence and probation.

Robert Martell Buckner, age 41 of Clear Lake, was charged by police after a teen accused him of sexually assaulting her back on December 11, 2016.

Buckner initially pleaded not guilty, but later took a plea deal to the charge of assault to commit sexual abuse. Judge Colleen Weiland handed down a sentence of 365 days in jail with 351 days suspended. A $625.00 fine was suspended. Buckner was put on probation for two years and must pay over $700 in court fees. He is also listed on the state’s sex offender registry.

A charge of lascivious acts with a child – fondle or touch was dismissed.
