Accused domestic abuser charged after jail fight; pleads insanity on other charges

MASON CITY – A Mason City man jailed on felony domestic abuse and numerous no-contact order violations is being charged after a jail fight and wants to withdraw his insanity plea.

Records show King Allah James, age 26 of Mason City, is accused of felony domestic abuse assault after police were called to 231 8th Street SE on December 18, 2016. In connection to the felony domestic abuse case, records show James violated a judge’s no-contact order 8 times in December of 2016 and that he has been found guilty of each count. The sentences handed down on March 13, ranging from 7 to 15 days, are to be served consecutively, records show, adding up to 103 days in jail. A warrant was immediately issued for his arrest.

James was jailed the next day. On March 20, he entered a motion for an arrest of judgement in the case, as he had previously claimed insanity. Records show that in March, requests were made for a substance abuse evaluation and a competency evaluation.

James was involved in a fight at the Cerro Gordo county jail on March 28. He was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct.

Then, on March 31, James entered a motion to withdraw his insanity plea and a request to resume proceedings in his case.  He was then appointed a public defender.

He remains jailed on no bond at this time.
