Woman on probation for prostitution caught drunk driving in Charles City

CHARLES CITY – A woman who was prosecuted for prostitution in Mason City and given a deferred judgment with probation was jailed this weekend for drunk driving in Charles City.

A Charles City police officer conducted a traffic stop just after 11 PM on Friday, March 24 at the 1000 block of Clark Street. After an investigation, the driver, 38-year-old Denisha Brown, was arrested for first-offense operating while intoxicated. She was taken to jail and soon released pending a court date.

On June 18, 2015, the Mason City Police Department with the assistance of the Iowa Department of Public Safety conducted an undercover prostitution operation in Mason City. The operation was part of a several month long investigation.  Seven people were arrested and charged with prostitution; an aggravated misdemeanor. The seven defendants were alleged to have either offered to purchase a sex act or offered to sell their services in a sex act with an undercover officer.  Caught in the sting was Brown, who later was given a deferred judgement on a charge of prostitution.  She was given 2 years of probation beginning in September of 2015.  She was ordered to pay $850.00 in fines and court costs, which records show she has paid in full.
