Marcus Erwin Quade, the son of Kenneth and Josephine (Nott) Quade, was born March 15, 1944 in Charles City. He graduated from Charles City High School in 1962, attended Wartburg College graduating in 1966 and then entered into the Wartburg Seminary in Dubuque. While in Dubuque, Marc met the love of his life, Carol Hacker, when he was a patient at a hospital and she was the nurse taking care of him. The two were united in marriage on November 18, 1967 in Lake Park, Iowa. Marc and Carol lived in Independence, Iowa for a short time while Marc was undergoing further training in the Pastoral Program at the state hospital. They moved to Oshkosh, Wisconsin where Marc started his internship for becoming a pastor. In 1969, Marc and Carol welcomed their first child, Kristi, and after only seeing her for three nights in the first three months of her life, Marc decided becoming a pastor was not for him. The decision was made to move back to Charles City and begin a career in construction.

Marc worked for Jack Winterink who was a major mentor and father figure in his life. In the early 70’s, Marc struck out on his own with Marcus Quade Construction Company which would later become Quade Construction Company, LC which is still in operation. He retired on January 1, 2010. Marc loved travelling with Carol (especially to Mexico), walking in the woods, working at the Christmas Tree farm he and Carol had for several years, adding to his extensive toy model John Deere Collection and restoring John Deere tractors. In 2013, Marc restored a John Deere 52G which was shown at the Two-Cylinder Club Show in Waterloo.

Marc was a lifetime member of Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church, a lifetime member of the Charles City Rotary and a 4-H Leader who helped both of his children with their projects. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Living family members include his wife of almost 50 years, Carol, of Charles City; daughter, Kristi (Robb) Wiedrich of Rochester, Minnesota; son, Timothy (Virginia) Quade of Beaufort, South Carolina; six grandchildren: Ethan, Gavin and Caleb Wiedrich and Josephine, Harrison and William Quade; three sisters: Marjorie Hanson of Elk Grove, California, Marcella (Jim) LaBounty of Charles City and Marylee Mehmen of Nashua; brother, Keith Quade of Charles City; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the family to be distributed between four charities Marc has chosen.

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Marcus Wiedrich; and brother, Roger Quade.

Hauser Funeral Home, (641) 228-2323, in Charles City, is in charge of local arrangements. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.hauserfh.com.
