SUMNER, IOWA – A man was found shot to death in this small Northern Iowa town, and state investigators are seeking answers.
On February 22, 2017, at 7:57 am, the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call from 17486 T Avenue in Sumner, Iowa on the report of an unresponsive male lying at the end of the driveway of the residence. The Sheriff’s Office and EMS personnel responded, located the male, and determined that he was deceased. The deceased was identified as the owner of the residence, Josh Brayton, 39. The Iowa Department of Public Safety’s (DPS) Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) was requested to assist with the investigation.
On February 23, 2017, an autopsy was conducted by the Iowa Office of the State Medical Examiner in Ankeny, Iowa and determined that Brayton died of a gunshot wound.
The investigation into Brayton’s death is on-going.
