Wanted Mason City man taken into custody after standoff

MASON CITY – A wanted Mason City man was taken into custody after a dispute with a group of people and then a standoff with police.

Monday morning at 2:52 AM, dispatch received an incomplete 911 call from the area of 14th Street NW and Madison Avenue. Responding Mason City police officers soon identified the issue was coming from 1305 North Madison.

“There was some type of dispute with approximately 4-5 people involved,” Mason City police tell NIT. “It was soon learned the resident, John Espinosa, had a valid arrest warrant for 2nd Degree Burglary. The situation soon turned into a standoff with 1 female subject remaining inside the residence.”

A nearby Mason City resident alerted NIT, saying “Police raided the house on Madison again at 3:30 AM this morning. There must have been 20 officers involved. They had Madison from 12th street to 14th blocked off and all the alley’s. Cops stationed on 12th looking for him too. They must want him pretty bad.”

Around 4:00 AM, police say, “the North Iowa Special Operations Group (SOG) were called out. Around 5:30 AM, the female exited the house unharmed. A short time later, Espinosa exited the house and surrendered to the SOG team.” Espinosa was taken to the county jail and held on $10,000 bond.

Espinosa, age 33, had some minor lacerations on his body and was taken to Mercy Hospital to be treated for his injuries. Espinosa was then taken to jail for the arrest warrant.

No other charges have been filed at this time. The female was not charged.

Mason City police were assisted by the Cerro Gordo county sheriff’s office, SOG, and the Mason City Fire Department.

The SOG got him! – batman and robin were held in reserve.

WHO ELSE WAS AT THE RESIDENCE? ONLY 1 CHARGED??

At that time of day probably just his girlfriend. The cars and old vans come and go all day and and all night. What does that tell you. They trade other people’s property just like it is cash for drugs. Goes on all the time. He has had several fights with his neighbors.

It is about time they caught up with this guy.

Guess he won’t be doing his globe gazette routes anymore! Maybe since he has burglary charges on his record he shouldn’t be delivering papers to people’s homes!

Maybe Skipper can fill in for him.

At least hes working

No he’s using the globe routes to troll people’s property.
