Hampton sex offender skips arraignment, is nabbed in Charles City

HAMPTON, IOWA – A Hampton sex offender was due in court last month but failed to appear, leading to a warrant and, finally, an arrest in another town.

Tyler Uhlenhop, age 22 of Hampton, was arrested on two outstanding warrants by Charles City police on December 30 after officers there were called to an apartment in the 900 block of 13th Avenue. Uhlenhop had been wanted ever since he skipped an arraignment hearing in Franklin county back on December 19 in connection to a charge of sex offender registration violation, second or subsequent offense. He was then transferred to the Franklin county jail and remains held there on $5,000 cash or surety bond.

Uhlenhopp was charged by the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department in 2014 after he allegedly enticed a female minor under the age of 16. He was later sentenced in April of 2015 to a deferred judgment on a charge of enticing a minor under th age of 16 for sexual purposes and placed on 5 years of probation and ordered to pay $1,213.75 in court fees and costs. That balance has ballooned to $1,602.50 and records show he has failed to make a payment.

Uhlenhopp was guilty in June of 2016 in Hancock county of violating the state’s sex offender registry. He was given 6 months in jail, but all but 60 days were suspended, along with a fine. He was put on 2 years of probation.

However, on January 6, 2017, Uhlenhopp was found guilty of violating his probation and the reset of his suspended sentence was imposed by a judge.
