CHARLES CITY – A Charles City man was stopped this past September by a Floyd county deputy who found a meth pipe, cash, baggies and a scale – and now the offender will spend years in prison as a punishment.

On Tuesday September 13, 2016 at 12:25 PM, 33-year-old Jeremy John Round of Charles City was stopped by a Floyd County Deputy Sheriff at the intersection of 11th Street and Corporate drive in Charles City. He was stopped due to having a suspended license. When placed under arrest, he was found to have a meth pipe and over $700.00 in cash on his person. His vehicle was towed and an inventory of the contents in the vehicle was conducted and while in the act of the inventory a bag of meth, small zip lock baggies and a scale was discovered. Also a locked box was found under the driver’s side seat.

Due to these items being found, the inventory was confiscated and a search warrant was requested and approved. The locked box and the truck were searched. More baggies and another digital scale was seized. The meth in the bag was field tested with a positive test and Round was charged with Possession of Methamphetamine with intent to deliver a class “B” felony, driving while suspended a simple misdemeanor and possession of drug paraphernalia a simple misdemeanor.

Round pled guilty and on December 12, 2016, Judge Dedra Schroeder sentenced him to 10 years in prison; Round must serve at least 1/3 of the sentence due to minimum mandatory sentencing requirements. He must also pay $1,750.00 in fines and court fees. Round is already down in Coralville being processed at the Iowa Medical & Classification Center.
