Ames police investigate two armed robberies Friday morning

AMES, IOWA – Ames police are searching for a suspect who apparently held up two convenient stores Friday morning.

On December 16, 2016, at 5:32 AM, the Ames Police Department responded to a report of an armed robbery at Kum & Go, 4506 Lincoln Way. According to the clerk, the suspect entered the store and demanded money from the clerk while displaying a handgun. The suspect left the store with an undisclosed amount of money. The suspect was last seen running east from the store. Officers searched the area, but were unable to locate the suspect. No one was injured during the incident.

A second armed robbery was reported at Swift Stop, 3218 Orion Drive at 5:50 AM. According to the clerk, the suspect entered the store and demanded money from the clerk while displaying a handgun. The suspect left the store with an undisclosed amount of money. The suspect was last seen running west from the store. Officers were unable to locate the suspect. No one was injured during the incident.

The suspect in both robberies was described as a black male, approximately 6’4” tall with a large build. The suspect was wearing black clothing and his face was partially covered.

Investigation into this robbery continues by the Ames Police Department. The Ames Police Department was assisted in the investigation by the Iowa State University Police Department.
