MASON CITY – Tragedy has struck again in Mason City, this time as a fire has evidently claimed the life of a young child.
The Mason City Police and Fire Departments responded to a house fire that resulted in the death of a young child. On December 10th, 2016 at 10:55 pm. a neighbor reported he could see the house was on fire and was attempting to alert the residents. When Officers and Firefighters arrived the house was fully engulfed.
NIT is told the address of the fire was at 118 13th Street NE, owned by a woman, Marilyn Lankford.
Investigators are still on scene trying to determine the cause of the fire. The names of any victims are being withheld pending notification of family.
AND Where do you think they end up after the funeral -The BAR of course. Drunk, rowdy, playing pool having a gay old time. You’d never know they just buried their baby. My hear goes out to him. May God take care of him now. Prayers baby boy. May the parents find a way to deal with this tragedy and a different way of life then the bar.
People who sling mud during such a horrible tragedy are beyond pathetic. You are ALL what is wrong with this country. Lack of empathy.

Saw the poor child almost get hit by a car this summer because the mother was to busy smoking her cigarette and talking with her back to the child if this tells you anything .

I’ve been there the first thing I did was make suremy children were safe, we lost our pet but my kids are alive. I can’t imagine not rushing into the face of death to save them. PERIOD. I DO hate that a child dies and a patent had to live written it.
Hard to save your child when you are not at home, arrive smelling like alcohol, and not able to think clearly. . As your child is caught in a burning house. She may of loved her children but they came second seemed like to the alcohol and bars. So much precious time wasted in the bars and addictions these days. What the hell kind of parent evacuates a burning house and leaves their small child behind? Must have been high and drunk to forget about junior. If mom has trouble living with that, it’s because she should.
A mother presumably seen out cheating, drinking, drugging after work instead of home. I wonder if they gave her an OWI when showed up at the scene? Or did they feel sorry for her? Such a tragedy, do not judge, say prayers it is in Gods hands.

Truth and reality sometimes are hard to take. She is in the bar drinking, drunk most of her time. Bar friends were what she seemed to chose over her children most of the time. This isn’t the first time her children have been put in harms way. She has a huge heart, nice BUT an addiction is an addiction and usually wins over the goodness a person has to offer. When given to an everyday drinking, drug addiction tragedy eventually is unavoidable. Not like people didn’t try to to tell her. It is a sad situation all around. She may love her children but not priority. Just say prayers they will all need them.

It’s like this. When you were a kid, you could have feelings from watching a bird, or playing with a beloved pet. The joy that came from the little things. Children feel everything in extremes, and their lives are so much brighter because of it.
As you age though, you are taught to keep it down, keep it in, to “man up” as it were. Each time you do, you give a little of yourself up and lose some of your brightness. By the time you hit your 30’s there is barely a glimmer left. Then something happens that turns what’s left of your world on its head. Losing a family member, splitting with your partner, it doesn’t matter what it is to everyone else, it’s what it does to you. You are so shattered emotionally that you wonder if you will ever be the same again. You won’t.
It happens to everyone eventually, I’ve been through mine.
Now I don’t feel anymore.
I’m just here, existing instead of living.
I don’t get those overwhelming feelings any more. The weight of everything in my life and the exhaustion from clawing my way out from under my own thoughts every day has forced me to abandon everything that doesn’t get me one hairsbreadth closer to some far off goal.
I’ve seen the hate, the intolerance, and the sheer ignorance of the world. People have stopped caring, because caring means you have to feel, and feeling takes effort. Most people think the opposite of love is hate, and it isn’t. The opposite of love is apathy. It’s not that I haven’t noticed what is happening around me, I just don’t care.
My advice, be bright. Buy a coffee for the guy behind you at the coffee shop. You can choose to be a force for light or darkness in the world. Be the light.

I heard from a neighbor that the child was three years old and the parent was outside when the fire happened.
Did not blame, asked for prayers for all. This is such a tragedy! Addiction destroys lives, judgment, and priorities. Just pray, pray for all. They are left here to deal, it will be a very hard road.

What a terrible thing to happen. A loss of a child is heartrending any time, but even more so at this time of the year.
