MASON CITY – A Clear Lake woman was chased out of Goodwill after tossing away the used clothing she tried to steal, then ran to Target to try her luck at absconding with DVDs.
The incident took place Wednesday evening, December 7. Mollie Kathleen McDermott, age 31, was arrested at Target at 4:46 PM for allegedly concealing $178.00 worth of DVDs inside her purse with the intent to steal.
Police say that MacDormott was at Goodwill earlier that day and was chased out by employees. At 3:11 PM that same afternoon, MacDormott is accused of allegedly concealing $42.00 worth of clothes inside her purse inside Goodwill in Mason City with the intent to steal clothing.
“Employees confronted her and she dumped the clothes but took off before police arrived,” NIT was told. Police soon located her at Target when the next theft was reported.
A few days prior, MacDormott was at Walmart in Mason City planning another caper and apparently used her speed and elusiveness to flee the scene after dumping merchandise.
Police charged her with fifth-degree theft for a reported shoplifting attempt at Walmart on December 2, 2016 at 6:06 PM. MacDormott allegedly concealed $93.00 worth of clothing inside her purse and left the store without paying for those items. MacDormott was confronted by employees past last point of sale.
“MacDormott allegedly got upset, emptied the contents of her purse for the employee to recover the clothing but fled before police arrived,” according to information relayed to NIT.
In summary, MacDormott was charged with three counts of fourth-degree theft (for the 3 different shoplifting events). Some suspected drug paraphernalia was also located on MacDormott at time of arrest and she was charged for Possession of Drug Paraphernalia as well.

Yes because I shoplifted and took pain medicine smoked herb never once have my kids been removed for drugs ty or have I ever dropped dirty for ice while having them in my care when I lost them I lost myself and I went to the only thing that helped . So this was after obviously from 03 til 2016 I have no thefts or arrest for stuff like that never stolen from a person but still got more balls then u keyboard warriors half off you I lnow who is talking and your either a closet user or a hater for other reasons I have eight years sober and haven’t stolen since,2017 ty after this last charge

I was abused by all their dads their hard working have a job quiet dad’s the men who act alright which is what caused the openings of each case. Concern of domestic abuse on me not them and I was ,young I was csa victim I have BPD and I lost my mom at 19 and never had anyone but my grandma she died I was 24 and has ,15 stomach surgeries 3 wound vacs in my stomach and developed a pill addiction noit by choice I smoked herb though when my kids were at school

I had 7 kids and from 03 until 2012 I was good them I started issues with my medication on top of abusive relationships and not putting my kids first because I didn’t think o could make it on my owm when my husband left i stole formula and let’s talk about Jon the woman beater who lied to DHS because he didkt want to pay child support for two kids or rob who left when my son was diagnosed you know rumours like every other shit talking perfect person right now skeletons
