MASON CITY – A Mason City man has been sent to jail for drunk driving in Clear Lake and for violating his probation a second time in a teen sex enticement case.
Colin James Zander, age 22, is listed on the state’s sex offender list for a crime he committed in Franklin county when he was 19-years-old. His victim was a male teen between the ages of 14 and 17. Records show that he was charged with sexual abuse in the third-degree back in 2013 but in a plea deal, pled guilty to enticing a minor under the age of 16 for sexual purposes. He was given a deferred judgement with 5 years of probation and ordered to pay $6,556.58 in fines and court costs.
Zander was guilty in September of 2015 of violating his probation but his punishment isn’t spelled out in court records. He was guilty again of violating his probation in November of this year and he was sentenced to 6 days in jail. Zander had been caught drunk driving in Clear Lake in May, just prior to this probation violation report being filed. Zander pled guilty to first-offense operating while intoxicated in November and was sentenced to 2 days in jail, had his license revoked, and was ordered to pay $1,897.50 in fines and court fees.
