MASON CITY – The rail road quiet zone is essentially a done deal, but city officials will offer the public an informal public information meeting to learn about the project.

The City of Mason City will be hosting an informal public information meeting to highlight and provide information on the creation of a Quiet Zone along the Union Pacific Railroad. The Railroad Quiet Zone will extend from 15th Street SW to 9th Street NW a distance of approximately 1.5 miles.

The meeting will be held on Thursday, December 1st from 5 to 7 p.m. in Conference Room A on the 2nd floor of City Hall. There will be no formal presentation, so visitors may stop by anytime during that time period. City staff will be present to discuss the project and to answer questions. Questions may also be directed to the Engineering Department at 641.421.3605.

Let’s see if I understand this article. The rail road quiet zone is a done deal, but city officials will hold an informal public information meeting. Is that ass backward, or what? This after-the-fact meeting is no more than a flip-off to the good folks who protested the closing of 9th street Northwest, pure and simple.
