Iowa man pleads guilty to shooting trumpeter swan, slapped with fine

12_Gauge_Shotgun_Shells_SLUGDES MOINES – An Iowa man illegally shot a trumpeter swan and must pay a substantial penalty.

Danny Lopez, 46, of Montour, pleaded guilty Tuesday in Tama County Magistrate Court to shooting a trumpeter swan on Otter Creek Marsh on Nov. 12.

Lopez shot the immature trumpeter swan at 7 a.m. while waterfowl hunting on pond seven. He was cited by State Conservation Officer Brett Reece.

Trumpeter swans are protected in Iowa. Lopez was fined $195 and assessed $1,500 civil damages.

The guy is a dumbass and deserves the fine. Anyone with a brain hunting can clearly identify a Swan from a Goose.

Also I wonder why the writer of this article chose to show pictures of Deer Slugs and not shotgun shells. The writer must also not know anything about hunting.

Let’s just say that the publisher of NIT need not lay awake at night waiting for the Pulitzer people to call.

He gets a fine for shooting a stupid bird, but the government funds abortion clinics that kill human babies. Great job prioritizing America!
