The Vikings said Tuesday morning that Walsh has been released from he team. This comes after earlier reports that the Viking were looking at new kickers and had as many as 6 try out for the team a couple weeks ago.
Walsh, a sixth-round draft pack in 2012, had made 12 of 16 field goals this season and was 15 of 19 on extra points. He made 133 of 158 (84.2 percent) of his field goals during his time in Minnesota with a career-long of 56 yards.
The Vikings started out 5-0 this season and were riding high, but have dropped 4 straight since then. Walsh missed an extra point after the Viking finally got a lead Sunday against Washington, a lead they later relinquished.
Perhaps the biggest miss in Walsh’s time with the Vikings was during the 2015 playoffs. He missed a 27-yard field goal the would have likely won the game as there were just a few seconds left to play. The Vikings lost the game to the Seahawks, who then went to the NFC title game.
There was no immediate word on who would take over the kicking duties.
