SPENCER, IOWA – Police arrested a man who beat a Walmart employee who told him to clean up his mess from returning cans and bottles, and now he faces a felony.
The incident took place Sunday, November 6, at the Walmart store in Spencer. According to the Spencer Daily Reporter, police arrived at the store around 8 PM to investigate an incident involing 30-year-old Gasim Zakarya. Police told the Daily Reporter that Zakayra “was taking redemption cans to the store’s redemption machines, allegedly pushed an unidentified store employee to the ground before beginning to repeatedly kick him. The employee reportedly sustained multiple facial bone fractures from the alleged attack” after the employee told Zakayra to clean up after himself.
Zakayra was soon arrested and taken to the Clay county jail, where he remains held on charges of felony assault causing serious injury, trespassing (he pled guilty and was fined), and assault (he pled guilty and was fined). He is set to appear in court on November 16.
