CEDAR FALLS – A Minnesota man attempted to jump off a Cedar Falls bridge after a serious accident this weekend that left an Iowa woman dead.
The Iowa State Patrol reported that a crash on a Cedar Falls bridge Saturday at midnight was caused by a Hyundai Accent that smashed into the back of a Dodge Caravan.
Cynthia Brooks, age 38 of Waterloo, was a passenger in a Hyundai Accent driven by 46-year-old Charles Brooks of Champlin, Minnesota. She died as a result of the collision.
A report from the Iowa State Patrol states that Brooks was traveling westbound at a high rate of speed when he rear-ended the van at 1st and Main in Cedar Falls. The van was driven by Randy Combs, age 62 of Waterloo. He suffered minor injuries. Both the van and car hit a cement barrier on the bridge.
Charles Brooks allegedly tried to jump off the bridge after the crash but was detained and taken to a hospital. Upon his release, he was charged with felony serious injury by vehicle on November 7. He is now in the Black Hawk county jail held on $100,000 bond, court records show.
