Two dead – including a baby – in Sunday afternoon shooting in south Minneapolis

MINNEAPOLIS – A man sitting in a parked car, along with a an 8-month-old baby, were both shot and killed Sunday in Minneapolis.

Minneapolis police officers from the Third Precinct responded to the area of 11th Avenue South and 26th Street East, at approx. 1:26 p.m. Sunday, October 9 after a person called 911 to report the sounds of gunshots being fired.

Officers arrived and located two shooting victims inside the backseat of a parked vehicle. Paramedics from Hennepin County Medical Center (HCMC) along with officers provided medical care to the victims. An adult male was pronounced deceased at the scene by paramedics. The second victim, an eight-month-old boy, was transported to Minneapolis Children’s Hospital by paramedics, where he died a short time later.

At this point in the investigation, police say they believe that the adult victim was the intended target. Investigators are currently speaking with several people, trying to determine their involvement. Members of the Police Community Support Team (PCST) and Chaplin program were at the scene today talking with community members and answering questions. Officers from the Third Precinct will be back out in the neighborhood tomorrow talking to residents about this tragedy. Police are seeking tips that would lead to the apprehension of the shooter(s).
