MASON CITY – A Mason City man was caught with the illegal drug methamphetamine for the second time this year.
On Friday, September 30, 33-year-old Michael Adam Nalan was arrested at the Cerro Gordo county courthouse for felony possession of methamphetamine and failure to affix a drug tax stamp. He allegedly had a large amount of cash on him. He was taken to the county jail and remains held there on $50,000 bond as he awaits an October 7 court date.
In January of this year, Nalan was driving with no legal license when a Cerro Gordo deputy pulled him over near 13th Street NW and Washington Avenue. After an investigation and search, both Nalan and his passenger, 51-year-old Bradley Martin Westendorf, were charged with possession of methamphetamine and taken to jail.
In April, Nalan pleaded guilty to first-offense possession of meth and was sentenced to 2 days in jail and ordered to pay $680.25 in fines and court fees, which he has failed to make a payment on so far, records show.
In August, the same charge brought against Westendorf was dismissed as he was acquitted by a jury.
