Convicted Iowa murderer dies of cancer in prison

ANAMOSA, IOWA – A convicted Iowa murderer died of cancer in prison this weekend.

Atwell Conner JR, an Offender assigned to the Anamosa State Penitentiary died Sunday, October 02, 2016 while in hospice care. At approximately 6:00 A.M., Nursing Staff discovered Conner was no longer breathing and had no pulse. At approximately 6:55 AM Jones County Coroner’s office pronounced Conner deceased.

Offender Conner died of natural causes due to the final stages of colon cancer.

Conner was 71-years-old and serving a Life sentence from Jones County for Murder 1st Degree. This sentence began on August 08, 1974.
