NIACC volleyball team splits pair at own tournament

MASON CITY – The NIACC volleyball team split a pair of matches at the NIACC tournament on Saturday.

NIACC stopped Marshalltown CC 3-2 and dropped a 3-1 decision to Rochester Community and Technical College.

NIACC beat Marshshalltown 18-25, 25-18, 12-25, 25-18, 15-10. RCTC stopped the Lady Trojans 25-17, 26-24, 17-25, 28-26.

In the match against Marshalltown, freshman Brooke Greenwood led the way with 10 kills and six blocks. The Lady Trojans also received six kills from Kaylee Whittington and five each from Aubury Coleman and Hannah Carr.

Sophomore Jackie Bleifus had 19 assists and sophomore Hailey Winter had 11 assists. Whittington had 16 digs and Liv Block had 15 digs.

Against RCTC, Whittington had 13 kills, Greenwood had eight kills and 11 blocks, Coleman had seven kills and Keely Heller had six kills. Bleifus had 23 assists and Winterhad 19 assists.

Block contributed 32 digs and Lauren Ries had nine digs.

NIACC (13-7 overall) returns to action Thursday at home against the Wartburg College Junior Varsity. Match time is set for 7 p.m.
