investigateKEOKUK, IOWA – The Iowa Department of Public Safety’s (DPS) Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) is assisting the Keokuk Police Department with a homicide investigation that took place this morning.

On October 2, 2016, just after midnight, the Keokuk Police Department responded to shots fired in an alley near 10th Street and N. 5th Street in Keokuk. When Keokuk Police officers arrived on scene, they found a female, Carissa Rivers, 29, unresponsive in the alley.

Rivers was transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead. An autopsy will take place this week at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

At this time, officials are not identifying a suspect, as that is part of the on-going investigation. Officials believe this is an isolated event and that the public is not in danger.

More information will be released as soon as it becomes available.
