Two more fish kills reported in Iowa

dead-fishANDREW, IOWA – DNR is investigating a fish kill in Upper Brush Creek, a trout stream about 3.5 miles north of Andrew in Jackson County.

The pollutant and its source are not yet known, but water samples will be sent for laboratory testing to identify the pollutant.

The fish kill was discovered when DNR fisheries staff pulled up to stock trout Friday morning. The fish kill extends at least a mile downstream and includes a few dead trout, and many other species: suckers, stone cats and minnows.

No trout were stocked at Upper Brush Creek Friday, but anglers will find newly stocked fish on Lower Brush Creek south of Highway 62.

DNR will continue to monitor the stream and look for the source of pollution.

State DNR investigators also responded to a fish kill along the Little Floyd River near Sheldon in O’Brien County.

The kill was reported Wednesday afternoon and initially appeared to involve a small number of fish, but a follow-up investigation indicates the kill has stretched at least three miles and involved hundreds of fish, mostly small chubs, minnows and suckers. Several water samples taken Wednesday showed no signs of elevated ammonia, and there were no obvious signs or smell of manure. However, investigators said the water was turbid due to recent rains.

Environmental and fisheries officials are currently assessing the extent of the kill and the investigation continues.

Not a lot of fish? But – BUTTHEAD ! The water (drinking water) is POISIONED ! If it KILLS FISH it will also KILL HUMANS -as hillary would say – It just takes a little longer. Hogs farmers are in bed with county supervisors -hell! believe it or not some county supervisors are farmers ( more than just a few in welfare farming in Iowa) Double dippers all over the public service sector – How about a Christmas rebate check for all the private sector that pays for your (nice) lifestyle).

“Drinking” water? Better check to see where your drinking water really comes from.

fomakiniaev – Are you referring to water poisoned with fluoride, all waterways are connected, fish being poisoned by CAFOS, or Chemtrails, are legitimate concerns, http://www.geoengineeringwatch.org/.

Foma your a true idiot or troll? Something as serious as clean water should not be taken lightly. We need stiffer fines for water pollution. Let the EPA handle water pollution and not the corporate hog farmer branstead.

Our drinking water comes from the Blackhawk Aquafier. Not from the rivers or streams. The water is filter soaking through the ground. Farmers with their own well have to worry, but they are the ones doing the polluting.
