HAMPTON, IOWA – An Osage man who watched the popular TV show “Breaking Bad” and then committed a range of serious felony offenses has been found guilty.
Mark Retterath, age 52 of Osage, was arrested and charged with Sexual Abuse 3rd Degree, a Class C Felony; Solicitation, a Class D Felony; Possession of a Controlled Substance and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Additional charges were filed by the Mitchell County Sheriff’s Office. The arrest came after a search warrant was served at 826 S. 6th Street, Osage, Iowa by the Osage Police Department on February 3, 2015. Assisting with the search were the Mitchell County Sheriff’s Office, Iowa State Patrol, Iowa DNR and Iowa Department of Criminal Investigations.
Retterath remained jailed in Mitchell county until Benard Retterath posted $500,000.00 bond for him in July of 2015. After a not-guilty plea, a trial was scheduled for August 15, 2016 with a change of venue to Franklin county, Iowa.
Retterath was accused of attempting to murder an underage person he had allegedly sexually assaulted in order to keep him quiet. Retterath planned to do the deed by using the poison ricin, which he was going to make himself after he ordered castor beans. He allegedly got the idea from watching the TV show “Breaking Bad”.
Last week, Retterath was found guilty of all charges brought against him. Court records do not yet show a sentencing date in this case.
