Attempted murder trial for Mason City man delayed

MASON CITY – A Mason City man accused of attempted murder and kidnapping has had his trial delayed.

A violent domestic incident led to the arrest of Jason Michael Clausen, age 43 of Mason City, back on the morning of Sunday, May 29. Officers with the Mason City Police Department responded to a domestic assault at 1136 Maple Drive SE. Officers conducted an investigation at the scene and it was determined that the victim had been assaulted by her boyfriend. The victim sustained serious bodily injury and was transported to the hospital by the Mason City Fire Department. Clausen was arrested for Attempted Murder (Class “B” Felony), 1st Degree Kidnapping (Class “A” Felony), 1St Degree Burglary (Class “B” Felony), and for violating a no contact order. Clausen was taken to the Cerro Gordo County Jail and remains held on $150,000 bond.

A Class “A” Felony is punishable up to life in prison. A Class “B” Felony is punishable up to 25 years in prison.

Clausen was to stand trial this month, but his lawyer requested a delay. He is now scheduled for a jury trial on October 25 and a pre-trial conference (possible plea deal) on October 18.
