ROCKWELL, IOWA – An Arizona man who was arrested after he rear-ended another vehicle causing an auto accident is guilty of a drug offense.
On Wednesday, June 29th, 2016 at about 6:12 PM, the Cerro Gordo County Sheriffs Office responded to a traffic collision involving injuries at the intersection of 170th Street and Highway 65 just north of Rockwell. Cecilia Novotney, 17, of Rockwell was southbound in a 2002 Ford Focus on Highway 65 attempting to turn east on to 170th street when a 1994 Toyota pickup driven by Skyler Jorgenson, 25, of Apache Junction, Arizona, struck Novotney from behind sending Novotney into the West ditch. Novotney was uninjured but was taken to Mercy Medical Center NI to be checked out due to the severity of the accident. Jorgenson was also taken to the hospital with minor injuries and was released from the hospital a shortly thereafter.
Both vehicles appeared to be a total loss.
An investigation of the accident revealed that Jorgenson was in possession of narcotics at the time of the accident. Jorgenson was arrested by Cerro Gordo County Deputies later in the evening for possession of controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, failure to stop in an assured clear distance and speeding.
Jorgensen later pleaded guilty to possession of a controlled substance. He was ordered to spend 7 days in jail and pay $741.25 in fines and court fees. He also pleaded guilty to failure to stop in an assured clear distance and was ordered to pay $247.75 in fines and court fees. The other charges were dismissed.
