MASON CITY – A Mason City man accused of stealing a candy bar from a North End store and then caught with meth skipped his sentencing hearing and is now wanted on an arrest warrant.
On Thursday, April 14, 2016, at 4:29 PM, Matthew Boese was spotted by a Mason City police officer at Family Dollar, 1510 North Federal Avenue. Boese had valid arrest warrants, police say. The officer made contact with Boese and suspected methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, and a possible stolen candy bar was located on him.
A felony drug possession charge was enhanced due to multiple prior drug convictions. Boese was charged with fifth-degree theft and possession of drug paraphernalia in addition to the arrest warrants. He was taken to the county jail and held there until Joy Infante Cambell posted bond for him after he entered a guilty plea. He was due to be sentenced on July 6 and was supposed to show up in court for that hearing.
However, Boese did not appear in court and a warrant was issued for his arrest. He remains at large currently.
Boese awaits a non-jury trial on October 14 for the theft and other charges connected to the April 14 incident at Family Dollar.
