MASON CITY – A Sheffield man and convicted felon found a jail cell twice in the last week after allegedly consuming alcohol.
Shawn William Armstrong, age 43 of Sheffield, was arrested in downtown Mason City after 9 PM on June 9. Police encountered him near 20 West State Street in an intoxicated state. He was taken to jail on a charge of aggravated misdemeanor third or subsequent offense public intoxication. He was soon released from jail and awaits a June 21 arraignment.
Then, on June 14, Armstrong was stopped while driving in Cerro Gordo county by a state patrol trooper. After an investigation at the stop, he was arrested on a charge of second-offense operating while under the influence. He was released and awaits a July 1 hearing.
In 2014, Armstrong was sent to an Iowa prison in connection with a felony theft charge from 2011 in which he stole a car and drove drunk. He had violated his probation several times before a judge finally sent him to prison for a sentence of up to 5 years. He went to prison on November 21, 2014 and was released April 14, 2015.
