Charles City police discover meth lab inside backpack

CHARLES CITY – Police in Charles City say they discovered a meth lab inside a backpack.

At 11:01 AM Thursday, May 12, the Charles City Police Department took a call of suspicious items in the 1400 block of Gilbert Street. The item was described as a suspicious backpack in a tree line. The officer found it to be a methamphetamine lab when he arrived.

A Floyd County Sheriff Deputy also responded to the scene for assistance.

The Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement (DNE) was contacted and were there a short time later and facilitated the clean up of the abandoned lab and also assisted in the investigation.

Charles City police say the investigation will continue into the case and charges will be pending from the case.
