MASON CITY – A favorite North End eatery and bar has now expanded to a second location.
Burke’s Bar & Grill has served Mason City at 1221 North Federal Avenue for 26 years and remains open and thriving at that venue.
Recently, an opportunity to expand this profitable businesses presented itself to owner Dan Burke, who calculated his chance for success and decided to take the leap.
Mr. Burke tells NIT that opening a second location for Burke’s Bar & Grill came to his attention in recent weeks, as Wise Guys sports bar was moving from 631 6th SW to its new location. The vacancy intrigued Mr. Burke, who inquired about a lease there.
“The price was right, the lease was right, and the location is pretty good,” Mr. Burke tells NIT. “I decided it was a great opportunity, and we went for it.”
Burke’s Bar and Grill has now been open at 631 6th Street SW since March 2. There was an inspection and all the legal work and other requirements were completed prior to the new name going on the sign out front. This weekend, he will be painting the inside of his new bar blue, just as it is at his other bar.

Mr. Burke says things are picking up and business remains strong at the North End venue.
“Things are good. I hope to install a full kitchen here at the 6th Street bar,” he says. He is applying for city permits to accomplish that.
Until then, he serves tacos and enchiladas at the 6th Street SW bar. At the 12th Street bar, breakfast is served open until close, as well as a full menu and daily specials.

Hours: Monday through Friday, 3:00 PM to 2:00 AM, Saturday and Sunday 11:00 AM to 2:00 AM.
Food: Tacos and enchiladas, currently served open till close with a possible full kitchen on the way (pending permits).

Food: Breakfast and full menu open till close
Closed Easter Sunday.
