MASON CITY – The No. 13 NIACC women’s basketball team is seeking its second trip to the national tournament in three years.
NIACC (21-10) hosts No. 15 DMACC (26-6 in the NJCAA Region XI title game at 1 p.m. Saturday in the NIACC gym.
NIACC advanced to the regional title game with a 67-54 victory over Iowa Central on Thursday. DMACC upset No. 3 Kirkwood 66-54 in its regional semifinal game Thursday.
NIACC, which is seeking its eighth trip to the national tournament, is 7-2 in regional title games. NIACC won the 2014 regional tournament and placed third at the national tournament and the Lady Trojans dropped a 78-67 decision to Kirkwood in last season’s regional final.
DMACC is seeking its first trip to the national women’s basketball tournament. The Bears advanced and lost in the regional title game in 2007 and 2011.
NIACC and DMACC split their two regular season contests this season. DMACC won 83-75 on Jan. 20 in Boone and the Lady Trojans won 64-52 on Feb. 17 in Mason City.
