Newly-married Mason City man sent to prison for domestic abuse

MASON CITY – A Mason City man was sent prison for 5 years for domestic abuse involving strangulation, even as he celebrates a recent marriage.

Anthony John Leichtnam, age 37, was sentenced Wednesday to up to 5 years in a state prison following another violent crime. This time, Mason City police arrested him back in September of 2015 for felony domestic abuse assault involving strangulation. He was also charged with obstruction of emergency communications, criminal mischief, interference with official acts and illegal drug possession.

Leichtnam must submit a DNA sample and pay $795.50 in fines and court costs.

Leichtnam claims via social media to have been married on February 1 and to cook at Whiskey Creek and weld at Winnebago. He is a dangerous felon who has already served time in Iowa prisons. He has been accused of violent crimes such as domestic abuse causing injury, felony assault causing serious injury, felony burglary, felony theft, and drunk driving, among other crimes.
