MASON CITY – A man staying in local hotels allegedly stole up to 4 TVs from one of them and hair products from a local retailer.
Evan Douglas Calo, age 33 who was last staying at the American Best Inn hotel in Mason City, has been wanted for a week on an arrest warrant connected to a felony charge of forgery brought by Clear Lake police.
This past weekend, Calo allegedly ventured several blocks west of his hotel home to the Hy-Vee Drugstore at 875 4th Street SW. During his visit, he allegedly decided to attempt to steal $20 worth of hair care products. Calo was detained by employees, and then arrested on a charge of fifth-degree theft as well as the warrant.
Then, Mason City police charged Calo with second-degree theft from a prior case they were investigating. This charge stems from an incident around September 24, 2015 at the Super 8 Motel. Calo allegedly used a credit card without permission to charge 10 nights lodging. In addition, he allegedly stole 4 flat screen TVs while he was there. The loss was estimated to be approximately $2,100.
Calo was taken to the county jail, where he remains held on $15,300 bond until his upcoming court dates this month.
