MASON CITY – A retirement party was held for Police Chief Michael Lashbrook today at city hall.

There was cake, punch, and coffee, and the public was invited. Plenty of city staff stopped up to the second floor conference room to bid farewell along with members of Chief Lashbrook’s family and other friends.  Several elected-officials attended, including councilman Bill Schickel, as well as state legislators Sharon Steckman and Amanda Ragan. Chief Lashbrook met each person at the door and thanked them for coming.

After 36 years in law enforcement at four different law enforcement agencies, Chief Lashbrook decided this year to retire. He told NIT today that he will definitely be retiring right here in Mason City.

“This is home,” the Mason City High graduate said.

Later on as he thanked folks for the well-wishes, he reflected on the early-going of his career in law enforcement when he started out in Nashua, and offered a fun story (see video).

“I’ve wanted to be a police officer my whole life,” he said, “I did a lot of traveling, a lot of moving over the years… all the good people made it special.”

The chief is spending his final days at work preparing to hand-off his job to Jeff Brinkley of Ames, Iowa.  Mr. Brinkley will assume the job in early January,
